This misunderstanding leads to a touching romance, filled with guilt, emotional healing, and his struggle to reconnect with the woman who has always loved him.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why did the MC run away for ten years without ever checking on his wife?
The protagonist’s biggest flaw is his absolute lack of communication and his tendency to make massive assumptions. When he saw his bride crying on their wedding day, he immediately assumed she hated him and the forced arrangement. Because his father was cruel and refused to cancel the wedding, the MC believed his physical disappearance was the only way to legally free her. He threw himself entirely into the dangerous life of a mercenary to become strong enough to be independent, never looking back because he was entirely convinced she had moved on to a better life.
Did the wife really just wait in the estate the entire time?
Yes, her devotion is the absolute emotional core of the story. Unlike the MC’s assumptions, she had harbored genuine feelings for him since they were young, and she actually wanted the marriage. Despite the humiliation of being abandoned on her wedding night and the difficulty of managing a declining noble estate, she faithfully held onto her vows. Her unwavering loyalty creates a massive, crushing sense of guilt for the protagonist when he realizes his attempt to “save” her actually condemned her to a decade of loneliness.
